Astro 342: The Solar System is designed for students who have a background in math and physics-with-calculus. Topics vary from semester to semester, but always include some discussion of the nature of the planets as derived from space probes (such as the Pathfinder mission to Mars). This semester we are structuring the course around the topics covered in the book "Worlds Apart" by Consolmagno and Schaefer; we will average 1 chapter per week.  Lecture notes  are made available on a weekly basis.  All notes are ©L. A. Willson and are made available for students currently enrolled in Astro 342.  Any other use requires specific permission.  Students in Astro 342 are typically majors in engineering (aerospace, ME, ChemE) or physics and astronomy.

Also available:   handoutssolutions to past homework assignments and   announcements .

(Notes, solutions, handouts, etc. are posted as .pdf files, so a reader such as Adobe Acrobat may be required to make these accessible.)
