Grade Calculation Information

Final Grades Are Calculated using the percentages announced on the Course Policies/Syllabus handout the first day of class.

Exams 30% [three Exams; lowest exam score is dropped]

  Classwork  20%

Informative Speech         15%

Persuasive Speech          20%

            Special Occasion Speech 15%

Calculation process that WebCT goes through as it does each step and adds the results of each step together.

1.Your average percentage score on your top two of the three exams we took is multiplied by .30

2. All of your classwork points earned are added up and divided by the total # of classwork points possible.  This results in a percentage score that we multiply by .20.  [note: the highest percentage total possible is 110%  Some students earn that much or more because of all the bonus work they do; we cap it at 110% to avoid misrepresenting your speaking skills in the final grade.]

3. Your Informative speech grade is converted to a percentage score* which is multiplied by .15

4. Your Persuasive speech grade is converted to a percentage score* which is multiplied by .20

5. Your Special Occasion speech grade is converted to a percentage score* which is multiplied by .15

6. These scores are added together to create a numerical percentage total for the course which is then converted to a letter grade using the following grading scale:

A   =   94-100%
A-   =   90-93%

B+   =   88-89
B   =   83-87
B-   =   80-82

C+   =   78-79%
C   =   73-77%
C-   =  70-72

D+   =   68-69%
D   =   63-67%
