Educational
Background
College:
Presently,
I am attending Iowa State University as an undergraduate student. Since I have
loved animals my entire life, I decided to major in Animal Science Pre-Vet. I
am not from a farm background, so last year was my first time I have ever
gotten to see REAL farm animals (not at a zoo). Though I think farm animals are
very cool and cute, I am interested in wildlife and marine animals.
As a freshman, I obtained the wonderful opportunity
in Science With Practice to get an internship with Dr. Ellinwood in his dog
colony. My purpose in the internship, was to learn more about genetic disease, by working
with the MSP I and MPS IIIB diseased dogs. I did this by working with my fellow
student colleagues, by interacting with the dogs, assisting in research, and
gaining knowledge about the dogs. This was a wonderful internship and I will
never forget it!
I am now interning as a Chemistry Ambassador with
Science Bound. With Science Bound our goal is to increase the number of
ethnically diverse Iowans (in high school and middle school) to come to Iowa
State to pursue a degree in science, technology, engineering, and/or
mathematics.
High School:
I have lived in Florida my entire life,
so I attended high school there. The name of my high school was Dunedin High.
We were the “Home of the Falcons”. I enjoyed high school. I obtained great
grades, while being able to still have fun!
During high school, I played every sport
there was to play and I received the title of the Most Athlete Female of the
school. I was quarterback of our high school’s flag football team. My senior
year we made it to states and became ranked THIRD in the state of Florida and
EIGHTH in the nation (2007-2008), which I am very proud of.
