Last semester, I took a class on Applied Linguistics, and I find the following sources to be very useful in gaining an insight into the quality and quantity of teaching resources available for L2 learning and instruction. Internet TESL Journal is a monthly web journal created and used by ESL teachers, which has been in use since 1996. The website posts articles and activities that are of “immediate practical use” to ESL or EFL teachers. Conversely, the journal is not interested in posting information that would be of interest only to researchers. In addition to articles, the journal also provides exhaustive lesson plans, classroom techniques for effective pedagogy, conversation questions for an ESL classroom, and games. The most striking feature of the website is page devoted specifically to examples of jokes that can be used in an ESL class for discussion, humor, and teaching. The website is also hyperlinked to a sister website that is provides an exhaustive list of activities for ESL students. Here is a PowerPoint presentation showcasing this site.
