I have some very unique
hobbies and interests. Like most college students, I enjoy playing and
watching sports, exercising, and simply hanging out with friends. I’m also
an avid deer and pheasant hunter. One of my more unique hobbies though, is
restoring classic cars and attending car shows on the weekends.
The automobile pictured
above is a 1971 Chevrolet Nova I restored when I was a junior in high
school. I purchased the car (in “not so good” of condition) in the fall and
my goal was to completely restore the vehicle by prom the following spring.
I did 95% of the work
myself on the vehicle, doing everything except actually spraying the blue
paint. A friend of the family that lives a few miles away works in an auto-body
shop in town and he would come over every week or two and instruct me on
what I was doing correctly and what I needed to do differently.
By the day of my high
school prom my junior year, I had the car rebuilt and the engine was
running. I did not yet have the interior finished (or even started for that
matter) so I simply bolted down a couple seats and picked up my date for
prom.
Since then, I have drive
my ’71 Nova all over the state, and even out of state, attending car shows
and having the time of my life telling others about my project.
