Urban Growth Modeling

I have developed an international reputation for my expertise in the urban modeling and management of tropical soils. I used logistical regressions and neural networks to model the expansion of fast growing cities in sub-Saharan African countries and their impact on surrounding natural resource base. These realistic models can be used for better city planning.

Urban Land Use and soil Quality

  • Study in Kumasi, Ghana, showed that soils influenced by runoff from a micro-enterprise center (Magazine) had enhanced levels of Cr, Co, Cu, Hg, Pb and Zn but no apparent threat from As and Ni pollution.
  • Considering the rate of expansion of the micro-center and waste disposal practices, environmental integrity could be compromised.
