The W. F. Coover Lecture was established in 1948 to honor Professor Winfred Forrest Coover. Prof. Coover joined the ISU faculty in 1904 and served as professor and chair of chemistry from 1913 to 1944. Prof. Coover was instrumental in raising the profile of the chemistry department at Iowa State. The 1999-2000 Coover lecture, sponsored by the Iowa State departments of biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology, and the Ames Section of the American Chemical Society, is the 48th year that the Coover lecture has been held.
