Specialized Accreditation of Academic Programs, Date of last accreditation
Accreditation at both the institutional and programmatic levels is important, as it assures the quality of Iowa State and its programs. Accreditation also assists in the improvement of specific programs and the institution overall. The accreditation standards and external reviews, inherent in the accreditation process, provide the formal structure and process for stimulating improvement in the quality of academic programs.
At the institutional level, Iowa State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and is currently under review for accreditation in 2006. At the specialized or programmatic level, many Iowa State academic programs are accredited by their relevant specialized accrediting agencies. For example, all of the programs in engineering are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Similarly, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accredits Iowa State programs in business. (See below for a complete list)
