The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, sets policy and governs five public institutions: • Iowa State University • University of Iowa • University of Northern Iowa • Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School • Iowa School for the Deaf Iowa State University is distinguished in its role as the state's land-grant university dedicated to advancing and applying science and technology. The University's top four officers are the president, vice president for academic affairs and provost, vice president for student affairs, and vice president for business and finance, all of whom work closely together to lead and administer the affairs of the University. Iowa State University embraces shared governance; administrative leaders regularly involve faculty, staff, student leaders, and the larger University community in decision-making processes. President Geoffroy has been particularly dedicated to consultative decision-making and has greatly increased opportunities for faculty, staff and student input into important institutional decisions and planning processes. One example is the Faculty Senate Budget Committee, who proivde advice to the President. Significant budget reductions have necessitated eliminating many administrative and staff positions resulting in a very efficient administrative structure that is potentially too lean.
