Homework, quizzes, and exams:  There will be 5 quizzes given, each worth 30 points.  In addition, I will collect 7 homework assignments, also worth 30 points each.  I will record only 10 homework/quiz scores, so your worst quizzes or homework assignments in excess of 10 will be omitted. (i.e. 5 quizzes and 7 assignments amount to 12 homework/quiz scores, so your worst 2 of these scores is omitted).  Last, but not least, I plan on having 3 exams throughout the course worth 150 points a piece.  Here’s my tentative plan for homework, quizzes, and exams.

Disabilities Statement: If a student has a disability that qualifies under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and requires accommodations, he/she should contact the Disability Resources (DR) office for information on appropriate policies and procedures. DR is located on the main floor of the Student Services Building, Room 1076; their phone is 515-294-6624.

Homework, quiz, and exam policies:    There will be no calculators allowed on the exams and quizzes.  I encourage using the calculators on your assignments to check arithmetic, but you must show your work in doing the problems to get credit.  If you write down an answer and don’t show your work, you will receive no credit for that problem.  There will be no make-ups on the quizzes, and I will not accept late assignments.  If you miss a quiz, you get a zero on that quiz.  If you do not hand in an assignment on the day it is due, you get a zero on that assignment.  Make-up exams will be given only in rare occasions.  If an unavoidable circumstance arises, please notify me before the exam to have your excuse approved by me.  I may require some form of documentation for the excuse.

Calculators: The calculators I recommend are the following: TI-82, TI-83, TI-84, TI-85, TI-86, TI-89, TI-92, and TI-2000 Voyager.

Other Expectations:  I will expect you to know how to do all of the homework.  In particular, make sure you keep up with the practice problems that I list on the homework page.  Your quizzes will be based entirely on these problems.  I will also expect good attendance.  Coming to class is vitally important for getting the information you need to know.  Finally, I expect you to respect your classmates while in the classroom by not being distractive.  Your classmates are paying as much (if not more) money as you are to be here, so pay attention.

Grading:  Grades in this course will be determined by the percentage of total points possible as listed below.  Percentages for letter grades are given below.

            Homework/Quizzes          (30 pts. each)                       300 pts.

Hour Exams                    (150 pts. each)                      450 pts.

            ------------------------------------------------------------------------
