Other sources for help:  If you need help when I am unavailable, you can go to the Math help room in Carver Hall, room 385.  Hours will be posted on the website.

Disabilities Statement: If a student has a disability that qualifies under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and requires accommodations, he/she should contact the Disability Resources (DR) office for information on appropriate policies and procedures. DR is located on the main floor of the Student Services Building, Room 1076; their phone is 515-294-6624.

Homework and quizzes:  There will be approximately 11 quizzes given, each worth 20 points.  Each quiz will fall on a Friday.  In addition, I will collect about 12 or 13 homework assignments, also worth 20 points each.  I will record only 20 homework/quiz scores, so your worst quizzes or homework assignments in excess of 20 will be omitted. (i.e. if there are 11 quizzes and 12 assignments, that’s 23 homework/quiz scores, so your worst 3 of these scores are omitted).

Exams: We will have 3 one-hour exams throughout the course.  Each one is worth 100 points.  There will be a cumulative final exam worth 150 points, and it is 90 minutes.

Homework, quiz, and exam policies:  You are more than welcome to use any calculator of your choice for homework.  On exams and quizzes, however, I will only allow scientific calculators (so no graphing calculators on exams and quizzes).  Even though I encourage the use of calculators to check arithmetic, you must show your work in doing the problems to get credit.  If you write down an answer and don’t show your work, you will receive no credit for that problem.  There will be no make-ups on the quizzesThere will be no assignments handed in late.  If you miss a quiz, you get a zero on that quiz.  If you do not hand in an assignment at the beginning of class the day it is due, you get a zero on that assignment.  Make-up exams will be given only in rare occasions.  If an unavoidable circumstance arises, please notify me before the exam to have your excuse approved by me.  I may require some form of documentation of the excuse.

Attendance:  I deeply encourage good attendance, so I am allotting 25 points for attendance.  Here’s the breakdown on how I will assign attendance points.

Other Expectations:  I will expect you to know how to do all of the homework.  Keeping up with the homework and practice problems is very important because the problems on the exams and quizzes will be of similar flavor to those in the textbook.  Finally, I expect you to respect your classmates while in the classroom by not being distractive.  Your classmates are paying as much (if not more) money as you are to be here, so pay attention.
