Summary:
Solstice: Internet Information Service of the Center for Renewable Energy
and Sustainable Technology is "...the site for energy efficiency, renewable
energy, and sustainable technology information and connections." The
service
is provided by CREST, the Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable
Technology, which "...produces educational multimedia CD-ROMs and operates
Solstice, an Internet service for the sustainable energy field." At the top
of the site's main page are links to register with the Solstice system and a
user comments area.
The site provides three major topics of interest to its users: (1) Energy
Efficiency; (2) Renewable Energy; and (3) Sustainable Living. When any one
of these three major topic links is selected, the user will find the
complete listing of all subtopics and their respective WWW links. Users can
also select subtopics from the site's main page. Within the "energy
efficiency" category, sutopics featured are: buildings, appliances,
lighting, general, case studies, education, finance, policy, and related Net
sites. For the topic of "renewable energy," subtopics included are:
bioenergy,
geothermal, hydrogen, solar, wind, general, economics, educational, policy,
and related Net sites. For the "sustainable living" category, users can
select from the following subtopics: environment, green products and
practices, planning, case studies, and related Net sites.
After selecting a subtopic of interest, the user will find that topic's WWW
connections listed, within the page where such links are located in the
site. Sites for each subtopic are listed alphabetically by title. Each
site is noted with its title and a brief description; selecting the title
opens a full page description of the site, with access to the WWW. Below
the subtopics area within the site's main page are links to CREST
information areas: new additions, the CREST store, a detailed index, general
information on CREST, mailing lists, keyword search, organizations on
Solstice, an events calendar, and related sites. Users will also find links
to new CREST software prducts, as well as ftp and gopher access to the CREST
WWW site.
