This site, a division of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is an alphabetical listing of the "...full names of sponsor organizations whose acronyms are used in the designations listed in the ANSI catalog. It also includes other acronyms used by ANSI...," the "...administrator and coordinator of the United States private sector voluntary standardization system...." ANSI's primary goal is the "...enhancement of global competitiveness of U.S. business and the American quality of life by promoting and facilitating voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment systems and promoting their integrity." The institute does not develop the standards; rather it "...facilitates development by establishing consensus among qualified groups."

Users will find the glossary arranged in two columns. The first is a listing of acronyms within the publication; the second is the translation of the acronym, revealing the organization's name or another ANSI reference.
