Summary:
National Parks Around the World is a division of the Great Outdoor
Recreation Pages (GORP) WWW site, an information resource "...packed with
valuable information of interest to outdoor recreationists and active
travelers." The site offers detailed descriptions and highlights of
national
parks found in six major geographical regions across the globe.
At the top of the site, the user will find links to major site areas of the
GORP homepage: (1) attractions; (2) activities; (3) locations; (4)
books/media; (5) travel; (6) gear; (7) eclectica; and (8) features. Also
provided is a link to over 3000 travel books and maps. The site's main area
offers a geographical index with these divisions: (1) Africa; (2) Asia; (3)
Australia/New Zealand; (4) Canada; (5) Latin America; and (6) Europe. Users
can select a region of interest to view national listings or scroll through
the site.
After selecting a region of interest, the user will find an alphabetical
list of countries within the region, each noting national parks within the
area; a description is provided of each park. Titles of parks are links
to viewing a complete information page, featuring: (1) title of park; (2)
detailed description of park; (3) full color map of park's location; (4)
information on plant and animal life within park; and (5) color photos of
park scenes. At the bottom of each park information page are all the GORP
site links found at the top of the main page.

Summary:
Protected Areas Information the WCMC Protected Areas Program, a division of the WWW site for the World Conservation
Monitoring Center (WCMC). "The aim of the WCMC Protected Areas Programme is
to provide access to information on protected area systems, managing and
linking information relevant to establishing and maintaining an effective
global system of protected areas that is representative of biological
diversity."
The site's main page offers a search field of country names and two search
focal documents: (1) 1992 Protected Areas list; and (2) 1993 UN List of
National Parks and Protected Areas. Users should select a country of
interest and one of the focal documents. Those selecting the 1992 Protected
Areas list will find a results document, seen by scrolling. Within the
text, a top link is given to a full citation, Below this area, information
on the following topics is discussed: (1) area; (2) population; (3) economic
indicators; (4) policy and legislation (for protected areas); (5)
administration and management (for protected areas); (6) systems reviews;
(7) contact addresses; (8) references; and (9) an annex section, detailing
protected area designations. The full citation link displays the citations
for the 1992 Protected Areas of the World: A Review of National
Systems.
Users who select a nation and the 1993 UN List of National Parks and
Protected Areas will find an alphabetical list of parks and areas within the
region. Each area is noted with: (1) name; (2) names of designations and
type of designation (reserve, station, etc.); (3) location (latitude and
longitude); (4) IUCN category for each designation; (5) number of acres
within designation; and (6) year of designation.

1996 Global Protected Areas Summary Statistics; (2) Introduction to 1993 UN
List of National Parks and Protected Areas; (3) definition of a protected
