Virology (QR:355 - 500)
QR394 Classification. Nomenclature
Summary:
ICTV Classification of Viruses is the search page for the International
Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) database, which describes "...all
viruses of animals (vertebrates, invertebrates, protozoa), plants (higher
plants and algae), bacteria, fungi, and archaea from the family level down
to strains and isolates."
The site's main page consists of a query page with a keyword field; users
should scroll to view search results. Matching entries will feature: (1)
viral family taxonomy; (2) genus; (3) type species; and (4) other members
(offering descriptions).
The site is sponsored by the Institute for Molecular Virology; Robert M.

Summary:
Index Virum "is a collection of index files which link to
lists containing acceptd virus family, genus and species names." These lists are
based on The Classification and Nomenclature of Viruses (edited
by F.A. Murphy et al., Archives of Virology, Springer Verlag: Wien, New York,
1995). Users may select from three basic databases:
Species Names (by alphabetical order only), Family Names (by alphabetical
order, general hosts, and nucleic acid composition), and a Taxonomic Structure
that indicates the general relationship between families, genera, and species.
Index Virum is copyrighted and maintained by Corneila Buchen-Osmond of the Research School
of Biological Science, Institute of Advanced Studies, Australian National
University, under the auspices of the International Committee on Taxonomy of
Viruses (ICTV). This homepage includes links to other ICTV resources.
