It is provided courtesy of the Information Retrieval Committee of the American Society of Mammalogists, but it is not restricted to members of the society. Nor does it include all the members of the society who have e-mail accounts listed in the Directory of Members," (Journal of Mammalogy 76(1). Supplement).

"The list was compiled by the 20 contributors listed at the end of [the authority] file. It is intended for use as an authority file for collections management activities of mammal collections. The list was compiled under the auspices of the American Society of Mammalogists."
