To provide quick background on various Western philosophers cited in our readings, I've adapted Will Durant's highly reductive, yet entertaining "Table of Philosophical Affiliations" from his 1954 The Story of Philosophy. Just click on a box for information about that philosopher. Most links are to entries in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, though Wikipedia was used in those cases where the Stanford site had neither a summary page nor any entry at all.
