Course PoliciesAttendanceAs a graduate student, you are expected to attend class on a regular basis and contribute to class discussions. I understand that things come up during the semester, and therefore I allow two (2) unexcused absence -- that's all. Each absence beyond that will reduce your final grade 5 points. More than six (6) absences during the semester will result in automatic failure.ParticipationDuring class, you must show evidence that you have read the assignments by being able to discuss them intelligently in class. You will also be expected to lead, along with a partner, one of our class discussions during the semester based on a rotation system I will explain later. To extend our class discussions, you are also invited to post your thoughts or suggest Internet links on our class email list at tech505MeetingsYou are always welcome to make an appointment during office hours on Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, right before our class. Rather than just dropping by, however, it usually works better if you schedule an appointment ahead of time so we can both prepare for our discussion. Still, you are welcome to just drop by if you want to talk.Late PapersReading essays are due the day we discuss the readings in class, so you cannot receive an extension for these assignments. However, on your research paper, you can receive an extension for good cause if you contact me via email before the assignment is due and explain (a) why you need more time and (b) when you will turn in the paper (no later than one week from the original deadline). I will not grant an extension of more than one week from the original due date.Disability AccommodationsIowa State University complies with the American with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Any student who may require an accommodation under such provisions should contact me as soon as possible and no later than the end of the first week of class or as soon as you become aware. No retroactive accommodations will be provided in this class. Academic HonestyUnless you are working with others on a collaborative assignment, the work you turn in for this class must be your own. If you use others' work without crediting them, you will receive a failing grade for the assignment, and most likely for the course. While you certainly can ask for feedback from others, you should not allow anyone to write any part of your assignment for you. For further information, see the university's policy on academic dishonesty. |
