7. Definitions, Descriptions, & Explanations
Tuesday
Activities will include:
- My returning your collaborative memos
- Reviewing new collaboration evaluation sheet
- Taking Online Tutorial Quizzes for both Chapters 14 & 15.
- Discussing descriptions - Metaphor: n. from Greek metapherein, 'to transfer.' "A figure of speech in which a word or phrase literally denoting one kind of object or idea is used in place of another to suggest a likeness or analogy between them (as in drowning in money)." Simile: "like" and "as." Question: Are "like" and "you know" halting attempts at metaphor/simile? When writing about subjects unfamiliar to an audience, appropriate and skillful use of figurative language may increase the appeal of the document.
- Rewriting description of a golf ball for a specific audience (instructions and image). Choose any of the audiences listed in the instructions.
Thursday
Activities will include:
- Submitting the golf ball description exercise from Tuesday's class.
- Class discussion of Chapter 16.
- Class discussion of project proposals.
- Discussion with partner of strategies for first drafts due on Tuesday.
