Seminar Description:
This full-day workshop
aims to provide
- a conceptual
understanding of how web-enabled databases can be implemented
and utilized in language learning settings,
- a chance for participants
to experience exemplary applications of web-enabled databases,
and
- a hands-on opportunity
to create a database that can be published on the web.
The presenter will
illustrate the relationship between databases and web pages,
demonstrate effective uses of web-enabled databases in language
learning sites, describe stages in designing a database, indicate
possible software/hardware solutions, and point to further learning
resources.
Participants will determine appropriate uses of web-enabled
databases in their particular language learning settings, create
their own database, and link it to the WWW.
Handouts containing "how-to documents" will be provided. If
you have any questions regarding the workshop, please contact
Volker Hegelheimer (volkerh@iastate.edu).
The workshop will
be conducted in English. All accompanying materials such
as handouts and tutorials will be in English as well.
