Vivian received a contact from a woman staff member at Ames Lab regarding possible discriminatory policy. The concern referred to university travel procedure, particularly related to reimbursement for cab fare. The issue was referred to the UCW Safety Committee.
Provost's reception for new women faculty and staff is Monday, October 12 from 2:30 to 4:30 at the Women's Center. All members are urged to attend.
Faculty Women's Network:
Theresa McCormick is coordinator for the Faculty Women's Network. The schedule of meetings and activities was circulated.
Provost's Visit to UCW:
We would like the Provost to address our concern about the lack of women being recruited for senior administrative positions, as demonstrated by recent hires in Food and Nutrion, College of Education and Veterinary Medicine. Statistics on this would be appreciated. We request that the Provost's Office show support for UCW by budget increase, web page and clerical support, and release time for chair or a member to serve as committee secretary.
UCW Chair's Meeting with President Jischke:
Vivian has been invited to discuss issues with the President on October 15. Members suggested that Vivian take with her facts and figures regarding various surveys in recent years. It was suggested that Dr. Jischke hold a forum or town meeting for campus women to discuss their concerns with him.
Women in Touch Events:
Women in Touch will present a brunch on October 14. Almo Hawkins will speak about leadership. The next program is scheduled on March 2 for lunch. The topic of negotiating one's point of view, particularly in meetings, was of interest. Suggestions for speakers were Mary B. Harms, Betsy Hoffman, and Ann Cooper-Farni.
UCW continues to support the formation of a university committee to address LGBT concerns.
