In 1968, the National Trails Systems Act was established by congress to provide for recreation, public access, enjoyment, and appreciation of the "open-air, outdoor areas and historic resources of the Nation." UNITED STATES CODE, TITLE 16 - CONSERVATION, CHAPTER 27 - NATIONAL TRAILS SYSTEM

To date, this act has established 19 National Scenic and Historic Trails that are governed under the act (as amended) and its provisions. The following is a list of the home pages for these national trails. Since not all trails have begun development of home pages, the address of the Partnership for the National Trails System has been given.
