These pages will still be updated whenever there is a problem with WebCT, but normally the latest news will only be on WebCT. To make sure you have the latest version of this page, press the Refresh/Reload button.

Whenever you discover a mathematical error in the textbook, in the course packet or in anything I put on the web, please tell me, either in class, in office hour or via email. I will award you 10 portfolio points of extra credit if you are the first one to report a particular error. But check out first this page of known errors so you don't waste everybody's time.

Make sure to label all your assignments with the title (eg portfolio #1), and your name. Start each assignment on a new page. Note that for homework questions numbered in blue in the textbook, the answer is in the back of the book.

Additional resources

WebCT is a tool for publishing your grades, plus some extra material for assignments and exams.

The Math Help Room is staffed by students who can help with questions, too. Will open the second week of the semester.

Consulting Hours are the times when you can drop into my office to see me in person. Apart from these regular hours, you can also make appointments via email. In that case, please check my schedule and suggest a time. If the door is shut, please knock!

National Library of Virtual Manipulatives has tons of great math activities online! We'll look into them as we go along.

Here are the course goals according to the NCTM standard and a syllabus. You do not have to print this out - it will always be here! This is Schedule 1 - I'll hand out printed copies in class.

Prerequisites

Satisfactory performance on placement exam, 2 years of high school algebra, 1 year of high school geometry, enrollment in elementary education or early childhood education. These classes are quite full and we want to keep them nice and personal, this means that you cannot enroll unless you are an Elementary Education or ECE major or you can document that you are in the process of changing majors.

Disabilities Statement

If a student has a disability that qualifies under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and requires accommodations, she/he should contact the Disability Resources (DR) office for information on appropriate policies and procedures. DR is located on the main floor of the Student Services Building, Room 1076; their phone is 515-294-6624. If you are considering this, I recommend talking to me early in the process, too.

Please put the letters Math 195 [x] at the beginning of your subject line (where [x] is your section letter)!!! Then add some meaningful subject like 'meeting' or 'grade' or 'homework'. This really helps me a lot!
