· Instructor: Jun Pan
· Textbook: Calculus: ninth edition by Varberg, Purcell, Rigdon.
· Objectives: It governs what you will study in the course and what questions will be asked on the exams.
· Course Plan: Tentative schedule of the lectures.
· Homework: Homework will be collected once a week. Homework is due at the beginning of class on the day it is due. Late homework will not be accepted. It is very important that you keep up to date with the homework. Doing homework can help you understand what we discuss in the class. The homework assignments are the minimum amount of problems for you to practice. Please keep in your mind that the best way to learn mathematics is to work out lots of problems. Please feel free to talk to me whenever you have questions or are unsure of your answers. Do not accumulate your questions into a huge ‘mountain’.
· Attendance: Students are expected to attend at least 75% of the classes to pass this course. Attendance sheets will be passed in the class to sign up everyday. Bring your textbook with you when you attend class.
· Exams: There will be 3 in-class exams (see Course Plan) and the department final. Calculators will not be allowed during exams, except possibly for particular problems where they may be required.
· Course Grading: Course grades will be given based on the homework (30%), exams (60%), and attendance of classes (10%). A tentative grading scale: A over 90%; B over 80%; C over 70%; D over 60%; F below 60%.
