Frequently Asked Questions by Math 140 Students

·        When is the next test?

o   Friday, February 23, 2007

·        Why do I have to show my work?

o   Because the instructor cannot read your mind and she needs to know you understand the problem and are not just guessing at the answer or copying from the back of the book.

·        What if I miss a test?

o   You better have a really good excuse and documentation to back it up (doctor’s note, funeral program, etc.)

o   Contact your instructor immediately to alert her of the situation within 24 hours of the test (via email is best)

o   Together, you and your instructor, will decide on a new time to take the test, within a day or two of the original exam because the instructor won’t pass the tests back until make-ups are done.

·        What do I do if I’m lost and don’t understand what is going on in class?

o   Ask a friend in the class for help

o   Go to the math help room (MTWR 9:00-4:00, F 9:00-3:00 in Carver 385)

o   Talk to your instructor; she can help you formulate questions, figure out where you got lost, and explain things in different ways, but she can’t read your mind.

·        What if I want to talk to my instructor, but I can’t come during her office hours?

o   See her before or after class

o   Email her

o   Slip a note under her door

o   Stop by her office and see if she’s available; link to her schedule is above
