Report from IHSAA – Rick Wulkow

1. State Leadership Conference held in June was a big success – over 300 participants.

2. The conference for new Athletic Directors / Administrators attracted over 70 participants and the IHSAA will continue to work through out the year with all participants

3. For Football the host allowance will increase with larger crowds. Schools hosting that have large crowds will be allotted a greater percentage for hosting. Tournament travel allowance has been increased for this year – easier to calculate. (see pages 13-14 in 2008 IHSAA Play-off Manual)

4. Bowling will be sanctioned with the IHSAA in 2009-2010. A bowling committee will be formed to workout rules, regulations, and policies.

5. Officials in Football, Basketball, and Baseball will be required to attend clinics held throughout the state in addition to a State sponsored rules meeting. Officials will improve their status in rank if they complete all requirements.

6. The sanctioning changes have proven to be a huge plus with the expansion of wrestling last year and the football playoff entries this year.

7. The IHSAA Annual Report was sent to all member school districts.

8. Basketball tournament series in 1A & 2A – Highest seed team will host 1st, 2nd and 3rd round games. The Board is also looking at decreasing the number of games played to eliminate amount of travel. Basketball Schedule Book is on-line only and will not be sent out to schools. They are on the website – any changes please let Bud know.

9. The NP/NP Scholarship rule for track will take effect March 16th through April 14th. Athletes will be able to compete on April 15th.

10. Track and field & soccer will be going to an on-line rules meeting this spring. There will also be 5 face to face rules meetings at the various sites throughout the state. The Association is looking at going with more on-line rules meetings to save on travel and time for all. State Track Meet rotation Class 1A & 4A in the morning and 2A & 3A in the afternoon.

11. Hall of Fame Nominations – Football -April 15th Basketball and Wrestling – September 25th Media Rep. – Setember 25th Offiicials – October 20th

12. Use of quikstatsiowa.com – mandatory for Football –Basketball –Baseball. Numerous uses and vital for state tournament series.

13. Wresting body composition assessment MUST be completed before first competition rather than first practice. Rotation for State Wrestling Tournament will be Class 3A - Wednesday, Feb. 18th @ 1:00 p.m. Class 1A – Wednesday Feb. 18th @ 6:30 p.m. Class 2A Thursday, Feb. 19th @9:00 a.m.
