The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem covers approximately 18 million acres of land. 77% of this land is federal, 19% is private, 2% is state, and another 2% belongs to the Wind River Indian Reservation.

Our study sites are located in two main regions of this ecosystem: Grand Teton National Park/Bridger Teton national Forest (Tetons) and Yellowstone National Park/Gallatin National Forest (Gallatins).
