
Sample Set-up
1. Place your sample in the magnet
Remove the black cap from the top of the magnet. Press the LIFT ON/OFF button on the BSMS keypad. The green light should turn on, and the lifting air should be audible. Wait for the sample to lift.
Take out the sample and remove the tube from the blue spinner. Carefully slide your sample into the spinner and adjust the depth using the clear plastic sample gauge. Check that your sample is higher than the mark for 5 mm Decoupling Coils (about 600 µL of sample in a standard tube). Wipe your sample tube and the spinner with a Kimwipe.
Check that the green light on the LIFT ON/OFF button is still on. Place your sample in the magnet and press LIFT ON/OFF to lower it. Check that the SAMPLE DOWN light is lit on the BSMS keypad.
2. Set the sample temperature
Input the setpoint by typing te TEMP, where TEMP is the desired temperature in degrees Kelvin, then type teset.
The sample temperature is displayed by the BVT3000 unit on top of the council. Type temon to display the sample temperature on the computer screen.
Note: to work at temperatures less than 5° C or greater than 80° C contact the facility manager for assistance.
3. Set the 2H lock
Type lockdisp to start the lock window. Type lock, then select the appropriate solvent from the lock menu. Wait for the "lock : finished" message.
4. Adjust Shims
On the BSMS keypad, press ONAXIS, then Z1. Turn the knob until the lock signal is maximized. If the lock signal goes off-scale, adjust LOCK GAIN to bring it back down. Adjust Z1 and Z2 iteratively until there is no further increase in the lock level.
Optional: Comprehensive shimming may be performed using Gradient Auto-shimming.
