TOPICS TO BE COVERED:
For Math 141 students: Trigonometric functions and their inverses, solving triangles, trigonometric identities and equations, graphing.
For Math 142 students: Trigonometric functions and their inverses, solving triangles, trigonometric identities and equations, graphing, polar coordinates, complex numbers, standard equations of lines and conic sections, and parametric equations.
PREREQUISITES:
Satisfactory performance on the math placement exam, two years of high school algebra, one year of high school geometry, or enrollment in Math 140.
TEXTBOOK:
Precalculus, 7th edition, by Michael Sullivan, published by Prentice Hall.
EXAMS:
There will be a one hour midterm exam (given during the regular class time), and two final exams; one for Math 141 students, trigonometry final exam, one for Math 142 students, trigonometry and analytic geometry final exam. You may see the tentative class schedule above for the timing of the exams.
HOMEWORKS:
I would like to assign homework problem sets for every section we will cover. Please turn these in on time. No late homework will be accepted unless you have an acceptable excuse. You may see the tentative class schedule for homework problems and their due dates. You may discuss/study homework problems with other students, but what you hand in must represent your own individual effort.
QUIZZES:
I will give a short quiz every Friday at the end of the
lecture. These quizzes will consist of one or two problems which are very
similar to the ones which you will have already solved in your homework sets.
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance will be
taken every lecture. It will be extra credit.
