Tentative class schedule

TEXTBOOK:

Precalculus by Beecher, Penna, and Bittinger, Third Edition

EXAMS:

There will be 2 major 50 minute Exams (given during the regular class time), and a 2 hour comprehensive departmental Final Exam. You may see the tentative class schedule above for the timing of the exams. The time for the final exam will be announced later. During exams calculators will NOT be allowed.

MAKE UP EXAM:

There will be ONLY ONE make up exam by the end of November. You can make up only one of the exams, exam 1 or exam 2, of course if you have a legitimate excuse. Make up exam will cover all the topics seen until then. There will be NO MAKE UP EXAM for the final exam. NO STUDENTS are to be excused from taking the final exam.

HOMEWORKS:

Homeworks will be done online via MyMathlab. You need an access code first to be able to work on homework assignments. New textbooks come with a new access code. If you get a used book from someone else, you can buy the access code separately online at http://www.coursecompass.com. Once you get the access code, you may register online at http://www.coursecompass.com and start to work on homework problems. During registration process, you will also need the course ID. Our course ID is: sit00491. Each assignment will have a certain due date and time. Please follow the due dates and times for the assignments because once due date and time for an assignment is over, it will be impossible to reach it anymore. So please do your homeworks on time and do not ask for any kind of extension.

  • MyMathLab only works on Windows Machines and works best with Internet Explorer.
  • If you don't have a computer, you can always go to the Carver 250 or 449 computer labs when they are open (See department website http://www.math.iastate.edu).
  • In order for MyMathLab to work on personal computers you will need to install the MML plug-ins by clicking on the Installation Wizard Button.
  • Everybody should take the on-line tour about "How to Enter Answers".
  • Student Tech Support Telephone Number 1-888-777-0463

        Information about MyMathLab

        Getting started with MyMathLab

QUIZZES:

Starting from the second week, I will give a short quiz almost every Friday at the end of the lecture. These quizzes will consist of one or two problems which are similar to the ones which you will have already solved in your homework assignments. There is NO MAKE UP for any of the quizzes. Instead, when calculating quiz averages, I will not count the worst quiz grade.

ATTENDANCE:

Starting from the second lecture, I will take attendance every lecture. It will be extra credit. So missing classes will not hurt your total grade.

MATH HELP ROOM:

You may get help for homework problems, or for quiz and exam studies in Math Help Room, Carver 385. More information will be available at http://www.math.iastate.edu and will be announced later.
